PhD Dissertation at Tanta University’s Faculty of Agriculture Discusses Land Degradation and Environmental Sensitivity to Desertification

Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University, held the public defense of the PhD dissertation submitted by researcher Kholoud Abdel Hady Sediq Ainer today, Saturday, 9 August 2025, under the patronage of Prof. Essawy Qassem Mahmoud, Faculty Dean, and Prof. Adel Helal, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development. The defense was hosted by the Department of Land and Water. The dissertation, registered in the Department of Land and Water, is titled: “Study of Land Degradation and Environmental Sensitivity for Desertification by Using New Techniques in Some Soils of Egypt.” The supervisory committee consisted of: • Prof. Mahmoud Mohamed Ibrahim, Professor of Soil Physics and Water Relations, Department of Land and Water, Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University. • Assist. Prof. Mohamed Soliman Shokr, Assistant Professor of Pedology, Department of Land and Water, Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University. • Dr. El-Sayed Abdel Sattar Ahmed Abdel Samie, Soil Researcher at the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences. The Judgement and Discussion Committee included a distinguished group of soil scientists: • Prof. Mahmoud Mohamed Ibrahim, Emeritus Professor of Soil Physics and Water Relations, Department of Land and Water, Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University (Supervisory Committee Representative & Chairman). • Prof. Essawy Qassem Mahmoud, Professor of Soil Chemistry, Department of Land and Water, and Dean of Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University (Internal Examiner). • Prof. Mohamed Samir El-Iraqi, Emeritus Professor of Pedology, Department of Land Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Menoufia University (External Examiner). • Prof. Mohamed Soliman Shokr, Assistant Professor of Pedology, Department of Land and Water, Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University (Supervisory Committee Representative). The committee discussed the dissertation with the researcher, who successfully answered all questions. The committee commended the excellence of the dissertation in content and scope, and recommended awarding the researcher the PhD degree in Agricultural Sciences, specializing in Land Science. The defense was attended by Prof. Adel Helal, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Mostafa Barseem, Head of the Geophysical Exploration Department at the Desert Research Center; Prof. Asaad Derbala, Professor of Agricultural Engineering and Former Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; in addition to academic staff members, teaching assistants of the department and faculty, postgraduate students, and the researcher’s family and friends. 8/9/2025
