Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Hussein Mahmoud, President of Tanta University; Prof. Mahmoud Farouk Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Essawy Qassem Mahmoud, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture; and Prof. Adel Mohamed Helal, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, the official inauguration of the third FAO MODEL TU (Food and Agriculture Organization Model at Tanta University) was held under the title "Smart Agriculture for a Sustainable Future", on Saturday, May 3, 2025, in the seminar hall at Faculty of Agriculture.
The event was supervised by Prof. Rania Ahmed Mohamed, FAO MODEL Academic Supervisor at Tanta University, with the presence of representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The guest of honor was Prof. Mona Abdel Aty Ahmed, Deputy Chairperson of the Education and Scientific Research Committee of the Egyptian Parliament, along with a distinguished group of scholars and lecturers, including:
• Prof. Abdel Aziz Belal, Head of Agricultural Applications, Soil and Marine Sciences Division at the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences and President of the African Precision Agriculture Association.
• Prof. Yasser Mohamed Abdo, Coordinator of Tanta University’s Activities of the Innovators and Geniuses Care Fund, Manager of the Science Club, and Manager of the Innovation Unit at Tanta University.
• Dr. Nasr El-Din Abdel Aziz, Director of the Egypt Digital Innovation Center and Director of the IT Institute in Tanta.
• Prof. Ramadan Ismail Kenani, Professor of Plant Nutrition and Soil Fertility at the Agricultural Research Center.
• Prof. Atef Sobhy Mahmoud Al-Saadi, Professor of Plant Nutrition and Soil Fertility at the Agricultural Research Center.
The opening was also attended by a delegation from the “Qualitative Leap” initiative under the General Information Authority, headed by Ms. Amira Zidan, General Coordinator in Gharbia, along with Engr. Anwar Abdel Hamid, Farmers’ Syndicate Leader; Engr. Osama Hiba, Mr. Hossam Yehia, and Dr. Mahmoud Rizk.
Many senior faculty members and staff from Faculty of Agriculture attended, including:

Prof. Sherif Gabr, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs and Former Dean of the Faculty.

Lecturers and judges of the “FAOject” competition organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization were honored, including:
• Prof. Omnia Al-Barbary, Vice Dean of Faculty of Computers and Information for Community Service and Environmental Development, recognized for the programming track.
• Dr. Amira Rizk, General Coordinator for the Scientific Research track and Manager of the Research Marketing Unit at Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University.
• Special thanks and recognition were given to Prof. Mahmoud Ibrahim, Emeritus Professor at Soil Department, for his support of the model’s students.
At the conclusion of the inauguration, second-season students were awarded certificates of completion for the FAO 2024 training program in the presence of the FAO representative.
